Family Meal at LHF

Here at Lindsay Academy, we recently celebrated Catholic Schools Week from January 27th through January 31th. The week was full of fun activities and events that made it very enjoyable for the students and staff. Catholic Schools Week has been a tradition that happened every year at Holy Family, which is why we made it our mission to make sure that the tradition carries on through the new school. The new school is a faith based school, even though it's considered a “private” school and not a “catholic” school. We still go to church at least once a week and are given the opportunity of religion class throughout the day. We also have morning prayer and say the pledge of allegiance over the intercom every morning with the announcements. Making sure that faith is still incorporated throughout the school is very important to us all. Therefore we thought it would only be fitting to carry on the tradition of Catholic Schools Week.

Starting off on Monday, was a trip to our local coffee shop, “The Farmer's Wife” for a coffee or refreshment. The Farmer's Wife was kind enough to treat fifty students plus teachers to their favorite drinks and have them ready for us to enjoy. This was a perfect way for us to start off the week. On Tuesday, we were able to go to the donut truck from Newman Grove. Students were each treated with a bag of warm mini donuts from the Donut NV truck. It was a great treat for breakfast. There were many different flavors to choose from and enjoy. The truck was in front of the church all day, also open to the public to come enjoy. Later in the afternoon, there was trivia for the students. They asked fun, Catholic based, questions for the students to try and figure out as both a competition and critical thinking activity.

Wednesday started off strong with a dress down day, some students even wore pajamas. This made the day very comfortable and laid back, it was also nice to have a break from the uniforms. Then after lunch, we had a movie day. We watched the movie “Miracles From Heaven”. This was a movie about a young girl who had a rare illness that many doctors could not find a cure for. But by a miracle from God, she was cured. We were also given drinks, popcorn, and other snacks to go along with the movie, which made for a fun afternoon. Thursday was also a fun day for the students. It provided students with the opportunity to be involved more with the faith. Many of our students were gone to FFA District CDE’s, but the ones who weren’t got to go over to Humphrey to pray a live rosary at Archangels Catholic High School. The students really enjoyed getting the opportunity to get out of school for prayer. Following the rosary the students came back to the Academy to play cards and board games with some of the community members. This gave the students the opportunity to play games with the people who truly made this school possible.

Lastly Friday, the last day of Catholic Schools week. We decided to do what we did traditionally in the past. It started off with a family mass at 10:30 with the elementary, which was then followed up with a Family meal in the Holy Family gym. Chili, chicken noodle soup, and cinnamon rolls were served with ice cream as dessert. It was an excellent meal and filled everyone up. After the meal was over, we were dismissed at 1 o'clock as a way to end Catholic Schools Week. I would say that Catholic Schools Week is one of the best weeks in the school year. It is full of fun, faith-based activities and best of all it gets you out of a little bit of school. Students, staff, and community members thoroughly enjoy this established tradition here at Lindsay Academy High School and Lindsay Holy Family Elementary. Thank you to all that made this fun and spiritual week possible.
