Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) is an organization which helps men and women prepare for multiple roles in today’s society. Lindsay Academy is excited to announce that we have made FCCLA a new organization for our students to participate in. There are currently 17 members enrolled with 1 adviser. So far this year they have gone to the District Leadership Conference at Central Community College in Columbus, Fall Leadership Worship at Wayne State College, and held a bake sale fundraiser during a home volleyball game.
During the District Leadership Conference at Central Community College in Columbus we were given multiple opportunities to learn about leadership and what FCCLA can offer you. This was held on Friday, October 11th. There were multiple breakout sessions to choose from which included Entrepreneurship by Homegrown Nutrition, Teen Dating Violence, Financial Services, and many others. Each of the sessions provided different life lessons like leadership, responsibilities, and career readiness which the members can all use in the future.
On October 14th, our members visited Wayne State College for the Fall Leadership Workshop. While they were there they got to meet some of the state officers and listen to them talk about what the big theme is this year and how it pertains to State FCCLA and National FCCLA. After that they went to various breakout sessions like Rising Leaders, Building Your Chapter, Serving With A Plan, and other leadership sessions.
The members came up with a fundraiser idea to have a bake sale at the home volleyball games against Howells-Dodge and Laurel-Concord on October 10th. Many fans came through the building and bought treats. Some of the treats included scotcheroos, brownies, cookies, and much more. Our foods class even contributed by making oreo balls during their class time. This was a successful fundraising event for our chapter.
Cram the Van is a food collection project that we hosted for people in need. Our members went around the community of Lindsay picking up a variety of food items on November 10th. We thank our community for their generous donations, which helped us meet our goal for this service project. With their support, we were able to provide items to a local food pantry and assist those in need as the holidays approach.
In the future we plan on doing some other activities like, an easter egg hunt, a babysitting night, attending state FCCLA, and other opportunities that may arise. The Easter egg hunt will give us a chance to show that we care about our community and the young children that are a part of it. We also plan on putting on a fundraiser where we will offer childcare to children from our community for one night so that parents can have a night to themselves. We will play games, watch a movie, and offer them snacks. We also have the opportunity to go to state this year. Member participation and fundraising is a factor when selecting who will be attending state. Although we wish everyone could attend, that is just not possible with transportation and other costs. Attending State FCCLA is an amazing opportunity for us to experience and learn from.
Lindsay Academy students are very appreciative of all the opportunities that FCCLA has and will allow us to participate in. All of the members and our adviser are very thankful for the support and encouragement from our parents, staff, and community members. Community members have generously volunteered their time to drive us to the District Leadership Conference at Central Community College in Columbus and the Fall Leadership Workshop at Wayne State College.
